Recently, you may have heard about changes surrounding Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) in the UK. The UK Home office have announced that foreign residents of the UK will no longer get a residence permit, and will instead need to create a UKVI account to gain access to an online eVisa.
The UK Government have announced that Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) will expire on 31 December 2024, regardless of their printed expiry date. This is part of their mission to phase out physical documents and transition to a fully digital immigration system for a more streamlined process. If a candidate holds a BRP, this expiration does not impact their immigration status or right to work in the UK, as long as their immigration permission is valid.
Although this may seem like a significant change, it has minimal impact on employers conducting Right to Work checks. Here’s why:
Digital Verification: Your candidate will continue to use the Government’s online share code system which provides real-time confirmation of their status directly from the Home Office.
No Action Required for BRP Holders: If your candidate’s immigration permission extends beyond 31 December 2024, their status remains unaffected. They can access proof of their status online and don’t need to replace their BRP.
No, our process remains unchanged as we conduct right-to-work checks using the Government’s online share code system, ensuring full compliance with UK law.
